Determination of pesticide residues in EU-infant formula samples
Following EFSA`s Scientific Opinion on food for infants and young children, the European Commission requested from EURL-AO information on the lowest achievable LOQs for approximately 60 different pesticides in milk based infant formula. Prioritised substances were chlorpyrifos, cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, fluquinconazole and ethoprophos. The infant formula has to be suitable for infants below the age of 16 weeks. MRM-methods were developed to quantify pesticides at very low levels (<0.002 mg/kg).
The methods and validation results are summarized in a validation report (see link below).
An EU-monitoring based on the developed methods was conducted in cooperation with the NRLs for pesticides to monitor the residue situation in infant formula within the EU.
